Monochrome Monday: GANDHI
At first, it was surreal seeing a likeness of Mahatma Gandhi standing in one of the most modern of United States' cities, far removed from his homeland India. But then again, the diversity of the residents of San Francisco and their generally harmonious co-existence are living testaments to what Gandhi has lived and died for. I'm sure he feels right at home in this city by the bay.
More details about this humble but powerful monument from the Embassy of India in the United States website.

ReplyDeleteHugs from Anne in Norway.
Moreso than in England - as I recall.
ReplyDeleteThat's a fabulous picture. I don't remember seeing that statue when I lived near SF.
ReplyDeleteThat's the second time I've seen a statue of Gandhi today! Iconic figure - I'm sure he would be right at home.
ReplyDeleteGandhi wanted to build bridges between people in a peaceful manner, so Gandhi with a bridge must be very appropriate.
ReplyDeleteHe looks a bit lost there but as you say, he probably feels at home there too.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a powerful and evocative image.
ReplyDeletethere should be a Gandhi monument in each country, if only to remind all of us to give peace and tolerance a chance in this increasingly restive world...
ReplyDeletei take it that this statue is rather new, unveiled just in 2000.
