PhotoHunt: MOSTLY BLACK




The lights were turned out simultaneously for an hour last year as local establishments in my current hometown joined Earth Hour 2010.

In one month's time, March 26th 8.30pm wherever you are, it will be Earth Hour once again! This year, the challenge is "to grow beyond the hour," to make the annual, symbolic lights out event the springboard for more sustained personal, commercial, and governmental effort throughout the year to be more energy-efficient and environment friendly.

Mangilan-ngilan na lamang ang mga natitirang gusali na may disenyong Art Deco. Marami sa mga lumang gusali- natayo noong panahon ng mga Amerikano hanggang matapos marahil ang giyera- ay nagupo ng digmaan o ng pangangailangan ng mga makabagong mamumuhunan sa lupang kanilang kinatitirikan. Ang kita ng ilang negosyante ay kawalan ng kasaysayan ng karamihan. Ang mga nakaligtas namang mga gusali ay daan-daanan na lang at hindi na halos napapansin.

Only a handful of Art Deco buildings have survived the Second World War or humanity's insatiable need for land, especially in Manila. It is sad though that a few business people profit from the loss of cultural icons of the bigger population. Those buildings that have survived suffer from neglect and abuse and are not paid much heed...
